The Haunted Restaurant . . .4 Stars

We don’t know what the ghosts that inhabit Catfish Plantation were having for dinner, but we weren’t planning on sharing our recent meal with them. The Mississippi farm-raised catfish was fresh and sweet. I chose the baked catfish served on a bed of long grain and wild rice. The seasons on the baked catfish were a little heavy-handed and salty, but otherwise tasty when combined with a forkful of rice. My companion’s fried catfish was divine. Opting for the cornmeal batter, it was lightly breaded and fried to perfection.

The side dishes were more than adequate in size. The broccoli/cheese/rice casserole was outstanding. This casserole had the right amount of everything it is supposed to have. My companion compared his butter beans to what his Mom used to make, in other words, scrumptious. The creamed spinach was okay but not outstanding. It was a little runny and needed some zing. Each plate was served with a couple of hush puppies. The restaurant has a long list of side dishes so there is something for everyone.

They also have an extensive list of desserts, from which we chose the strawberry cobbler. We were pleased to see that it was a large serving since we were sharing. It was warm and very good, topped off with a scoop of ice cream. It wasn’t vanilla, though. We’re thinking maybe it was cinnamon ice cream.

Talking with nearby diners, we learned they come for the fried sweet potatoes, a famous appetizer at the Catfish Plantation.  The sweet potatoes are dipped in a cinnamon-sugar batter and fried.  They are served with a side dip. 

 All in all, this restaurant is very pleasant with exceptionally attentive service where two people can eat well for under $30.
