Waxahachie Community Theater
Waxahachie Community Theatre (WCT) filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of Texas on December 17, 1979. WCT declared itself to be a non-profit corporation and its duration as perpetual.
The purposes for which WCT was organized are the following: the production and presentation of theatrical and musical events of all kinds, using local volunteer talent whenever possible, and the advancement of education and interest in theatrical arts in Ellis County, Texas.
The corporation also was declared to be a membership organization.
At least three major productions are mounted each year: one in dinner theatre format, and two other fully staged Broadway-style musicals accompanied by a live orchestra. The 2011 season will include two smaller showcases — one in July geared toward young actors and audiences and a Christmas show in December.
When WCT began in 1979 our audiences numbered less than 100. At the time, we performed at the Lyceum upstairs in Sims Library, at the Ellis County Fine Arts Building, or at the historical Chautauqua Auditorium. Now, the majority of our performances are in the Chautauqua. Most seats are filled for all three performances of our two Broadway musical productions.
WCT is an equal-opportunity theatre, and we welcome your interest in our endeavors.
Our Executive Director is Kasi Jones and the 2011 Board of Directors is Misha Navarro-Chairwoman, Ryan McElhany-Vice Chairman, Kelly Pieterse-Secretary, Albert Love-Treasurer, Jerry Ellis, Vanessa Kinsala and Jana Scribner.

This delightful Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy written by Mary Chase tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit. Elwood’s sister, Veta, decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood’s hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! What ensues next is a comedy of errors that will have you laughing at the antics of all parties involved.

Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, refuses Emile’s proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl with whom he’s fallen in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe’s life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices.

This American classic centers on Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, who is transported, along with her dog Toto, to the fantasy utopia of Oz by a tornado that sweeps her farmhouse home away. The storm carries the house with Dorothy and Toto to Munchkinland, a magical place far, far away. In her efforts to get back home to Kansas, Dorothy is sent along the yellow brick road by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North to find the Wizard of Oz and get his help. Along the way, Dorothy overcomes various obstacles and meets a talking scarecrow, a tin man, and a cowardly lion who also are unsatisfied and need to find the Emerald City, of which the Wizard is master, believing that he will give them each what they desire.
