Ellis County was formed December 20, 1849, from Robertson and Navarro counties. It was named for Richard Ellis, President of the March, 1836, Independence Convention.

The Rogers Hotel Named for the founder of Waxahachie, Emory W. Rogers, who built his log cabin home in 1847 on this site and donated land for the Ellis County Courthouse in 1850. And yep!, it is haunted!
Moore's Hardware - The Dove's Gift Shop and Restaurant. The Gift Shop was originally a hardware store. The restaurant which is situated next door was a saddle and harness shop.
The Ellis County Museum, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Ellis County. It was organized in 1968 by local citizens to serve as a repository for materials contributing to the historical interpretation of the county.
The Sims Library was built during 1903 - 1904 after a local farmer and investor named Nicholas P. Sims left the bulk of his estate for the establishment of a library for the people of Waxahachie and Ellis County.
